We all woke on Saturday morning very abruptly as a massive 7.1 earthquake shook the South Island of New Zealand. It was centred in Darfield which was very close to Christchurch. Ashburton was very lucky and apart from the violent shaking, we had no damage to people or buildings. Christchurch though was a little bit different with quite a lot of damage to both old and new buildings. Luckily no one was killed or seriously hurt.
Craig, made up a banner and flew it for ‘moral’ support for the community in Ashburton. We are all OK now, Christchurch is still clearing up from the damage which is going to run into the millions of dollars. Hopefully this will be the last of the quakes for a long time to come.
